Kix's 10th

Today was Kix's 10th birthday! Don't laugh . . but we celebrated with a cookout and cake with some family and friends. I think everyone enjoyed themselves . . even the dogs in attendance. We had burgers and cupcakes, but the dogs woofed down some little soft food meals. As you can see Kix's meal had a candle and we sang "Happy Birthday." Then he opened a few gifts of treats and a new ball. His favorite past time is playing fetch over and over and over until your arm hurts. Due to his age he is having a hard time finding the tennis ball in the yard due to the color contrast of the ball and grass. So, we got him a shiny new red ball that we hope will be easier for him to see. He did really well finding it yesterday as everyone took turns playing fetch.

They're Home

As you can tell, Max is very excited that his buddies are home. Clay, Amanda, and the kid-os arrived safely on Sunday evening. Everyone is glad they are back for a little while. Thanks for all the prayers for their healthy return. Continue to pray for them that they will have a productive visit home. They have lots of tasks, goals, and fundraising to do during this unexpected return to the states. We know that their students wait anxiously for their return to Mexico, but we are loving the fact of being able to spend time with them this summer.

Big Boy Class

Tonight was Max's first night in his big boy swim class. Jay and I didn't have to swim with him, YEA! He did a really good job waiting for his turn and following instructions from Ms. Janet. Here is a picture of him waving to us across the pool. Don't you love the goggles?

Lee's Birthday

Saturday was Jay's brother, Lee's Birthday. We celebrated as a family by going to eat crawfish at Steamboat Bill's. This is one of Lee's favorite places to eat. We topped the night off with chocolate cake. Happy Birthday Lee!

Bee Swarm

April 28, 2009On Tuesday afternoon we were outside in our front yard when he experienced a strange event. While getting max in the stroller to go running, a large swarm of bees began flying into our yard. They were going nuts buzzing all over the place. The mowers had been around that afternoon so we just figured that they stirred them up. We left on our run thinking they would continue on their mission. When we returned we found they had attached themselves to our tree. The top picture shows the hundreds of them caked onto each other. Our neighbor gave us the name and number to a local bee keeper that turns out we knew pretty well. He said he would be right over to get the bees. Within the hour Wayne and his son Blake showed up with all their gear. It was a real site to see as they prepared for the capture. Blake held the hive box under the mound of bees and Wayne scooped them into the box. NO STINGS! Amazing! They placed the box under the tree and said they would return at dark to pick up the box with all the bees. Wayne explained that the Queen is always in the middle of the pack. When he scooped them he hoped to get her and place her in the box. Then all the worker bees move to find her and cover her again, hence all the bees going in the box. Neat-o. All the bees left with Wayne their new adoptive father who will give them a happy home. Thanks!

The Zoo

To end our fabulous weekend, Jay and I both took off Monday and visited the Zoo with Max. He loves to look at all the animals. Big Daddy works near the Zoo so he came over on his lunch break. Max took him to see the elephants, meerkats, and ostrich. Max enjoyed watching the meerkats run around.
